Zinnia was trying very hard to focus on her knife skills as she prepped dinner. Her mind was running wild with possibilities and her hands had a slight shake to them after Lucas and Poppy arrived and told her that they found nothing on the search but a camera and that Sam was expected for dinner. Maybe she shouldn’t have canceled Landon’s chef friend. She could barely concentrate on cooking.

The bell over the front door tinkled once and then stayed open for several minutes as the entirety of the town strode in.

“We thought we could have a meeting before the guest-of-honor arrives,” Miss Lily said as she and her sisters took a seat.

“I would offer to massage him with my special oils, but I’m a married mother-to-be. I can’t be doing that anymore,” Aniyah said, taking a seat with her husband.

“I like those oils,” Nikki, the town’s most despised Belle and Queen B, said. B stood for any number of words to describe her. She was the co-president of the Keeneston Belles so B could stand for Belle. She loved gossip so busy bee also worked. She was also so over-inflated with cosmetic surgery you could say the B stood for booty or bountiful or even bogus. But the main B was bitch. Zinnia had watched Nikki parade around her, throwing her tits around, batting her overly long lashes, and demanding to get her way. The town did not comply, which was why Nikki was still single, despite her lack of trying to land every man in town. However, she seemed to be calming down recently. “They have a little tingle that I like.”

“Here’s a new one I got, but I don’t want to put anything into the temple that is my body right now while my little sugarcub is growing.” Aniyah handed a bottle of oil to Nikki. “Enjoy.”

“Thanks, Aniyah.”

Kale chose that moment to walk in, and Zinnia saw it happen before anyone could stop it. Nikki closed in on Kale and rubbed up against him like a cat in heat. The batting of her tarantula-like eyelashes hypnotized him.

Suddenly a glass of water was thrown and Nikki gasped as the side of her shirt was soaked through. “Bad Nikki!” Tandy, the other co-president of the Belles, scolded. “You need to learn how to use your powers for good.”

Kale shook his head and quickly closed his eyes as he moved blindly past a waterlogged Nikki. There went her record of eight days without rubbing up against someone without permission.

“Did you find something?” Poppy asked. Zinnia could hear the hopefulness and the stress in her sister’s voice.

Kale stood in the middle of the room and frowned. Zinnia’s heart sank. That told her everything she needed to know.

“No. All the people who followed him today said all he did was drive around Keeneston. He poked around the parks and woods doing a little hiking, but that’s it. Online, there is shockingly little on Sam. I couldn’t find anything on him and you know how good I am.
